  • Travels | Berber Lodge Marrakech, Morocco

"Hidden between the olive trees, about 20 kilometers from Marrakech, in a tiny berber village called Oumnas, you will find a serene oasis, a paradise where you’ll be able to leave the busy and bustling city behind and ultimately come to rest.

Pink walls made of clay from the garden, rooftops with palm and eucalyptus wood found in the area around. On one side it all feels authentic, with respect for the traditional Moroccan architecture, and on the other side it’s modern. Vintage finds are interspersed with design that easily mix with the Berber rugs and checkered tablecloths. Sounds a bit like a mishmash of styles but it all combines harmoniously.

Architect Romain Michel-Meniere has already made name for himself by designing a few riads and properties like the stylish and eclectic Bab Ourika (definitely on my list for a next visit to Morocco). But now, in his own Berber Lodge, everything seems to come together. Nature, authenticity, serenity, style and old fashioned cosiness. You will feel right at home here and you’ll never want to leave again. I will be back here for sure. [...] "

  • Travels | La Pause - Maison and Table d'hote near Marrakech

30 kilometers from Marrakech, in the anciently named the “Désert Marrakchi”, la pause: nestles in the arid beauty of the Agafay hills: an exquisite refreshing oasis bordered by a river, in a dramatic landscape overlooking the vast Moroccan wilderness.
We discovered this place on instagram. We have not visited it yet but it is definitely the kind of simple place we like. I am personally a big fan of guest houses. You can also sleep bivouac style if you wish or just get married on site.

  • Travels | Glamping in Morocco: Scarabeo Camp

Looking for a special place on holiday? The perfect Instagram? We have a place just for you in Morocco.

35 kilometers from Marrakech, in the small rocky desert of Agafay. The camp siting affords stunning 360° views of the Agafay's barren grandeur and beyond to the snow-capped Atlas mountains.

Each private sleeping area consists of a nomad tent of thick white cotton with regular and confortable beds (twin or double beds). Guests can recline in a traditional Moroccan lounge strewn with ethnic cushions or put pen to paper as Papa Hemingway did at a wooden writing desk. A stretched cotton panel screens the entrance to each tent, for you to silently savour this mystical desert landscape still untouched by tourism.

  • Travels | Formerly known as the zaouïa of Derkaoua: riad Dar Kawa

Dar Kawa is situated in the heart of the Medina, old town, in the maze of souks… That is where the city of Marrakech was born. Here, between the spice market and Medersa Ben Youssef, between the common oven and the ‘hammam’ of the area, Dar Kawa was built right in the beginning of the 17th century. At that time, the house was the zaouïa of Derkaoua, a religious building of the brotherhood of the same name. In the middle of these walls with Saadian architecture, one prayed, meditated, exchanged in total serenity. Dar Kawa has preserved its tranquillity and its revitalizing energy.

Its owner is the French interior designer Valerie Barkowski who fell in love with the property back in the 90's.
